Frequently Asked Questions

Of course.

Type the word ‘Trim’ in the search bar. For example, ‘S Line Trim’ on Audi or ‘AMG Line Trim’ on Mercedes etc.

We show you what that specific trim is worth.

We do not take into account any performance or engine changes, only what the specification/trim is worth.

How does “Trim” pricing work?

Specification/Trim pricing is an independent value specific to the model you select.

In some instances, you will see a lower guide price for more expensive vehicles. For example, the Porsche Taycan ‘Turbo S’ will have a lower trim value than the ‘GTS’ model. This is because we’ve only looked at the specification, not the performance.

Where you see a £0 value. This will likely be the base model of the vehicle.

Absolutely.

We provide you with the flexibility to add some generic options that might not be available on your vehicle.

For example, not all manufacturers offer Android Auto or Apple Carplay, even as an option.

We value items like that for you, just in case they’re added to that model at a later date.

I have a few more questions…

No problem at all.

If you have any questions, please contact us using the ‘Contact’ tab in the navigation and we’ll get back to you.

Generic car pricing guides ONLY value the vehicle, they don’t take into account the options. That’s why Car Spec Check exists.

We tell you the Current and Future Value of the options on your chosen vehicle and what they’re worth in today’s market.

The Forecast Value will tell you what those options are likely to be worth over the next 7 years.

Car Spec Check uses real-world economics and expertise from around the world.

We use experts with decades of experience to help create an accurate valuation for the individual options on the manufacturer and model you select.

Our goal is to provide you with the most accurate option valuation possible, and we do this via a sophisticated valuation system and our industry recognised experts.

Of course! Not only does our car valuation guide churn out thousands of valuations a month, we’ll also provide you with an electronic copy of your request via email.

Everyone wants to buy a car for the least amount possible and sell for the highest price possible, right?

Car spec check provides you with insights on what ACTUALLY adds value to a car or van.

Buying? You’ll want to add options that actually add value to your vehicle. Selling?

You’ll want to know what those options are worth in today’s market.

As often as is required. If we see changes in buying behaviour, economic changes, trends, or variation in trends, then we’ll amend the valuation to reflect that change.

We’ll also add new vehicles as they hit the market so that you have access to the latest manufacturers and models.

With decades of experience under our belt, rest assured that Car Spec Check is as accurate as possible.

Manufacturers use Car Spec Check to help them understand what options they should put in their vehicles as standard, and how much they expect those items to be worth in the 2nd hand market. Without accuracy and trust, manufacturers simply wouldn’t use our guide.

We value almost every single option you can think of, but there are a few items that the system won’t value.

For example, If you try to add a panoramic roof to a convertible with a cloth roof, the system won’t allow you to do that (for obvious reasons).

Likewise with things like specialist paints from manufacturers like Lamborghini.

Those options can cost over £20,000 from the factory and are generally tailored to a specific specification.

A lot! Just adding things like a panoramic roof and metallic paint can affect the value massively.

Even on vans, once you start to add things like an extra side loading door, the value rises exponentially.

You’ll want to take options into account if you’re buying or selling a vehicle.

Manufacturers ultimately control what you pay for the options on their vehicles.

We advise what they’re worth in the used and future market based on our economic models and experience.

Some brands, such as Bentley, will charge £5000+ for a Bang and Olufsen Audio system, while Audi “only” charges £750.

We value these based on what they’re actually worth, not what a manufacturer thinks they can charge you.

Not all options add value, even if the manufacturer convinces you that they are worth paying for… A CD player, for example, doesn’t add value anymore.

Wireless streaming is the new format.

Gesture control, whilst convenient, doesn’t add value to a vehicle based on our analysis.

We look at each option on an individual basis. If an item is valued as £0, rest assured it’s not a mistake, it’s based on past, present and future option analysis.

That’s correct. Historically, some manufacturers have tried to upsell their consumers into higher specification vehicles with more safety equipment.

We show these items as £0. Based on our analysis, consumers do not expect to pay extra in order to be safer, as safety is expected at any price level.

Our system reflects that sentiment.

As automotive technology advances, it means that we need to take a view of where that technology (and value) will be in the future.

For example, 1st gen 360 cameras on older vehicles certainly added value at the time, but now more vehicles have them as standard equipment, therefore decreasing the overall market value on the old generation.

Where will camera and screen technology be in 7 years time… Face recognition vehicle unlock? 8k screens? All things we need to consider when valuing future options.

Yes. All our guide prices for Car Spec Check include VAT, even the commercial vehicles.
